IRYNA MAKSYMOVA
IRYNA MAKSYMOVA was born in 1991 in Kolomyia, Ukraine. She currently lives and works in Kiev.
She began her art career with a degree in Graphic Design, but has always cultivated a passion for painting. Maksymova has become a prominent figure on the international art scene, known for her works that mix colorful domestic settings with exotic and magical creatures, often charged with emotional and social meanings.
Her work explores themes such as feminism, sexism, and ecology, reflecting her personal experiences and perceived injustices in the world. Her paintings are known for their strong color contrasts and characters with twisted expressions, prompting the viewer to reflect on the power dynamics between humans and animals. Maksymova views each of her works as a manifesto, a call to action to address these issues.
She has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions around the world, including Pieces at Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery in London in 2023, She Will Win at Circle Culture Gallery in Berlin in 2022, and Wild Cats in Circus in Lviv in 2020. Her works have been exhibited in cities such as Paris, New York, Hong Kong, and Los Angeles, and are part of public and private collections in countries such as the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, and many others.
Iryna Maksymova is recognized for her unique style and ability to transform personal experiences into art that speaks to universal themes. With a rapidly rising career, she continues to influence and inspire through her powerful visual narratives and her commitment to social change.
Iryna Maksymova’s next solo exhibition, entitled Landscape’s Body, curated by Ivan Quaroni, will open in our gallery on Thursday, September 19, 2024.
