MOBY – Destroyed<\/h3>\n

Destroyed, Moby\u02bcs forthcoming new album and accompanying book of photography is set\u00a0for release on May 16th, alongside an international programme of exhibition of photographs,\u00a0which will take place throughout the summer. Published by Damiani, the hardback edition of\u00a0Destroyed is 128 pages and features 55 photographs taken by Moby.
\nA litany of intriguing photo images taken all over the world, Destroyed is a by turns stark,\u00a0poignant, amusing and beautiful cavalcade of surreally deserted cityscapes and urban \u02bbnonplaces\u02bc – airport buildings with endless corridors that seem to lead nowhere, and semiabstract\u00a0compositions of cloud forms and landscapes shot from airplane windows.
\nA behind-the-scenes international odyssey, Destroyed introduces us to a side of touring that\u00a0is often unexposed; secluded time spent in artificial spaces like hotel rooms and backstage\u00a0waiting areas. The combined album and photo book provides an intimate look at Moby\u02bcs\u00a0world and his creative process as an artist, both the music and photos were created in the\u00a0same period and draw inspiration from the strange and sublime world of touring.
\nThere are contrasting images of luminous but lonely hotel room vistas alongside vast,\u00a0swaying crowd scenes, as snapped from the stage; their juxtaposition seemingly saying\u00a0everything about the very psychological dislocation, the dramatic yin and yang of the\u00a0international touring musician\u02bcs life. As Moby puts it, \u201cTouring is all contrasts and\u00a0strangeness, and that’s what I’m trying to convey in these pictures.\u201d
\nTaking, developing and printing photographs are not new departures for Moby. Once a\u00a0graduate student of film and photography at SUNY Purchase (State University of New York),\u00a0he\u02bcs been a keen SLR lensman ever since he was presented with a camera, aged ten, by his\u00a0Uncle – a photographer at the New York Times.
\nTo this day Moby carries a camera wherever he goes. The title and front cover of Destroyed\u00a0depicts the final part of an LED security warning: Unattended luggage will be destroyed,\u00a0which Moby snapped as it flashed up in a deserted hallway at New York\u02bcs La Guardia airport.
\nExplains Moby, \u201cOne of my goals through my pictures is to take the normal and present it as\u00a0odd and to take the odd and present it as normal.\u201d
\nAlthough keen on a number of contemporary practitioners, Moby\u02bcs key photographic
\ninfluences are drawn mostly from the early-to-mid 20th century, including such names as\u00a0Irving Penn, Andr\u00e9 Kert\u00e9sz and Edward Steichen. Other, more recent influences include\u00a0Sally Mann and Wolfgang Tillmans. \u201cThe technique behind photography in the \u02bb70s and \u02bb80s\u00a0almost took precedent over the composition itself, and then Wolfgang Tillmans came along\u00a0and said, \u02bbby the way, if you have a crummy little instamatic camera you can make\u00a0remarkable images\u02bc, and there\u02bcs something really liberating about that.\u201d
\nMoby\u02bcs songs from Destroyed were written late at night in hotel rooms around the world. A\u00a0soundtrack for empty cities at 2AM, Destroyed evokes nocturnal feelings of both anxious\u00a0isolation and the comfort of quiet solitude.
